Polestar was originally a tuning division of Volvo, but in 2017 became a separate company that designs and manufactures premium cars (with a penchant for “green”). The brand's current lineup so far includes just a couple of models: the Polestar 1 hybrid coupe and the Polestar 2 compact electric cross-liftback. Both models are made in China and also sold in Europe<\/a>. According to the Carsalesbase website, this year (from January to October) the two-door was sold in the amount of 53 copies, and the increased five-door – 15,177 units. In the future, the line will be replenished with the Polestar 3 crossover, which we talked about earlier, as well as its “younger brother”, the Polestar 4 small SUV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath shared information about the new product in an interview with the British edition of Car. In particular, this confirmed the expectations regarding the name of the future model: the “younger brother” Polestar 3 will actually receive the “four” as an identification number. Visually (and in size) it will be smaller than the Polestar 3, however, according to a top manager, the cabin will still be spacious. The compact crossover<\/a> will have a sloping roof, the exterior will be “tuned” to the desired aerodynamic characteristics.<\/p>\n

Thomas Ingenlath mentioned, among other things, the estimated cost of the future electric SUV: probably in Europe, Polestar 4 can be bought for 55 thousand euros (approximately 4.65 million conventional units at the current exchange rate). For comparison: the preliminary starting price of the “big brother” is 75 thousand euros (about 6.34 million conventional units).<\/p>\n

The company intends to start production of the Polestar 4 in 2023, so it is expected to use the facilities of the Geely plant in Hangzhou (China). The manufacturer has big plans for this model: it is expected that the compact SUV will become the brand's best-selling car by around 2025, leaving both the current Polestar 2 cross-liftback and the upcoming larger vehicle, the Polestar 3, behind. brand will annually sell 79,000 of these “fours” in the world<\/a> market.<\/p>\n

Polestar 4 should compete with the Porsche Macan (we are talking about a future all-electric version). It is worth noting that sales of the current German SUV, for example, in the European market continue to decline. So, during the “covid” period of 2020, the model was sold in the Old World with a circulation of 16,865 copies (31.1% less than in 2019<\/a>). And from January to November<\/a> of this year, buyers bought 13,503 units (6.2% less than in the first 11 months of last year).<\/p>\n

According to preliminary data, Polestar 4 will be based on the PMA platform, in fact, this is the same SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) “trolley” developed by the Chinese holding Geely. There is no other information, even approximate, about the “stuffing” of the future “electricity market” of the Swedish brand.<\/p>\n

According to the plans of the company, by the end of 2022, Polestar vehicles will be presented in the markets of approximately thirty countries around the world. In 2025, the Swedes expect to reach an annual total turnover of 290,000 vehicles.
