Volkswagen almost completely revealed the appearance of the new Virtus sedan
This “four-door” has so far been announced only for the Indian market. At the same time, the eponymous model destined for Latin America could be later updated in the same vein.
The first previews of the new sedan were released by Volkswagen India about a week and a half ago. And here is the other part, and on these frames you can already get an almost complete picture of the appearance of the model. And the local brand office officially confirmed the name of the novelty – it received the same name as the “four-door” that has been produced in Brazil since 2017 – Virtus.
Recall that the closest relative of the upcoming sedan is the Skoda Slavia, which debuted in India at the end of last year. Slavia, in turn, is a significantly restyled version of the same Brazilian Volkswagen Virtus: the Skoda model is based on the MQB-A0-IN “car” (created specifically for India, the local Virtus is also based on it), i.e. a simplified version of the MQB, whereas the American car is built on the original global platform. In India, the new Volkswagen will replace the Vento, which is also a former Polo sedan? (with the change of generations, the Russian VW Polo has become a liftback based on the new Skoda Rapid).

The body of the Indian Virtus is the same as that of the Slavia, but the exterior design remains the same. Well, if compared with the “Brazilian”, then the “Indian” has different optics, a radiator grill and a bumper, as well as abundant chrome trim. By the way, the teasers show the “sporty” version of the GT, which features a slightly more aggressive front end, a small spoiler on the trunk lid and corresponding nameplates on the front fenders and grille. The hall is not lit yet.
Please note that Slavia does not yet have a “sport” option, but the Brazilian Virtus does (it has the GTS index). Meanwhile, the sedan destined for Latin America is likely to be upgraded to an indio style later (but is unlikely to move to a stripped-down station wagon).

In India, the Volkswagen sedan will apparently be available with the same engines as the Slavia. We are talking about petrol “turbo” 1.0 TSI (115 hp) and “turbo” 1.5 TSI (150 hp). Both engines are paired with a six-speed “mechanics”, the liter is still paired with the classic six-speed “automatic”, and the older engine is with the DSG7. At the same time, local specialized media write that the one and a half liter turbo engine is probably only for the GT version.

The premiere of the “other” Volkswagen Virtus is scheduled for March 8 this year. Production will be established at the Indian plant, which also produces Skoda Slavia. In VW, such a sedan is called a global model, but, most likely, the Virtus of the Indian assembly will appear only in the countries of Southeast Asia and Africa.
