Toyota is preparing a new small crossover: the first image of the BZ2

It is assumed that the Japanese brand SUV will become a “green” alternative to the Yaris Cross. It is assumed that the model will appear in the middle of this decade.

In Europe, Toyota is generally doing well, with sales growth for the Japanese brand since 2014. In 2021, the brand returned to positive momentum, with customers purchasing 687,160 units, up 7.1% from the previous year. Now the brand continues its own development strategy and develops new models, including fully electric ones.

Toyota has an electric vehicle development project called bZ (Beyond Zero), which is a reference to zero-emission vehicles. The first-born, released as part of this project, was the Toyota bZ4X crossover (it has a “brother” Subaru – Solterra). This SUV is comparable in size to the current RAV4 crossover. The model has not yet gone on sale, with the cars expected to hit dealerships in mid-2022.

The company previously said that by 2030 it will release about thirty zero-emission models: they will be intended for markets in Europe, Asia and the United States. Recall, last spring it became known that the company filed trademark applications with the US Patent Office, which included such names as BZ1, BZ2, BZ2X, BZ3, BZ4, BZ4X and BZ5. Options with a “claim” suggest the presence of all-wheel drive.

Toyota BZ2 should become one of the small crossovers, in terms of dimensions, such a car can be compared with the Yaris Cross. It is possible that the novelty is a fully electric alternative to this model. There is no official information about what such an SUV will look like yet. The designer of the Spanish edition of motor.es offered his own version of the appearance of the BZ2.

Judging by the render, the design of the novelty will echo the already presented Toyota bZ4X crossover. It is assumed that he will receive an “angular” body, a large number of sharp lines, unusual head optics in the shape of the letter C. It is expected that the bright appearance will allow the SUV to stand out in the B-segment among competitors.

Toyota bZ2 Processing

According to preliminary data, such a bZ2 crossover will be based on the e-TGNA electric vehicle platform (developed jointly with Subaru). Compared to the Toyota Yaris Cross, the car will have more interior space. The capacity of the new traction battery has not yet been disclosed, but the expected autonomy on a single charge could be 400 km.

Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the new electric SUV are expected (the name BZ2X will likely be used). What power will be in the “stuffing” of the new model is still unknown. Recall that the basic front-wheel drive version of the already presented stock Toyota bZ4X has a 204-horsepower electric motor. And the all-wheel drive modification has two electric motors (one for each axle) with a capacity of 109 hp each. The total power of this power plant is 218 hp.
