Toyota is preparing for the premiere of the new Tundra, which can get the “stuffing” from the Land Cruiser 300
It became known the exact time of the presentation of the truck of the next generation: the model will be completely declassified in the United States at the end of this week, September 19th. Moreover, the premiere will take place in the evening, at 21:00 local time.
Toyota launched the Tundra full-size pickup truck in the US in 1999, and the model has changed generations only once since then. So, the car of the current second generation was introduced in 2007, and it survived restyling in 2014. The performance of the Japanese brand truck in the States has been declining for the last couple of years. For the “covid” 2020, the model sold 109,203 copies (2.2% less than a year earlier). This year, Tundra sales continued to decline: in January-August, customers bought 56,185 cars (17.5% less than in the first eight months of 2020).
The company today recalled that the new generation truck will be completely declassified in the United States on September 19, and called the exact time of the premiere – nine in the evening local time. In addition, on the eve of the imminent debut, the company was generous with another very modest video teaser lasting three seconds.
In the new video, against the background of the frame with the slogan of the model – Born from Invincible – you can see a flashed next-generation pickup truck: part of the cab, the side of the loading platform and one taillight are captured. It is worth noting that we have already seen the exterior of the future truck: the “third” Tundra appeared on the Web in the top version of TRD Pro back in June (such cars will have underbody protection, as well as a sports suspension).
It is known that the new generation Toyota Tundra will have full LED head optics with T-shaped daytime running lights, as well as another large grille with a pattern in the form of large cells. There are stampings on the fenders, doors and the lid of the cargo platform of the pickup truck.
Fans of the model managed to partially show the interior of the novelty. So, in the cabin of the “next” pickup in the center of the front panel there is a large touch screen, while the tablet is not built in, but rises above the panel. The Tundra also has a new steering wheel: it has a red zero position mark, in addition, JBL speakers were seen on the A-pillars.
The novelty will be based on the Toyota F1 (TNGA-F) platform, on which the Sequoia and 4Runner SUVs, as well as the Tacoma pickup, are based. Earlier, the company announced the appearance of a new engine in the Tundra engine line – iForce Max, presumably V6. Most likely, the model will receive a turbo engine under the hood, with which the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 debuted. Its volume is 3.5 liters, the output of the SUV is 415 hp, and the maximum torque is 650 Nm.
Probably, the new engine will replace the current 386-horsepower V8 engine with a volume of 5.7 liters (torque – 544 Nm). It is possible that in the line of the “Japanese” there will be either a “regular” hybrid or a PHEV variant (however, there are no details about this “stuffing” yet).
