American “green” SUV: Cadillac Escalade may have a new version

A recent trademark application for the Escalade IQ has surfaced online, speculated to be the name of an all-electric version of the model in the future.

The Cadillac brand is part of one of the largest American companies – General Motors. In the domestic market, the brand is doing well. True, it should be borne in mind that according to the results of the “covid" 2020, there was a “minus”: then dealers sold 129,495 cars, which is 17.1% less than in 2019. But this year, Cadillac is back on track in the States, with 95,925 Cadillac purchases between January and September, up 10.8% from the first three quarters of last year.

One of the most popular Cadillac models is the Escalade SUV. Thanks to the generational change in recent years, she managed to increase sales in the States, including the crisis of 2020: during the specified period, dealers sold 24,547 copies, which is 9.2% more than in the previous year. And for the first three quarters of this year, the model was sold with a circulation of 30,841 pieces. (twice more compared to January-September 2020).

In the future, the Cadillac Escalade family is likely to expand. The SUV is expected to have an all-electric version. Earlier, the company noted that in the future the brand will have a "green" full-size SUV the size of the Escalade. Now these words have received indirect confirmation: the information appeared on the Internet that this month GM filed an application for registration of the Escalade IQ brand.

Probably, such a name with a prefix – Escalade IQ – could receive a fully electric version of the popular SUV. As noted by the GM Authority, this is quite a logical explanation, especially if you remember that even the models of electric vehicles of this brand end in “-iq”. We are talking about the Lyriq SUV (recently they began to collect pre-orders in China and will soon start selling the model in the US), as well as a new product that has not yet been presented, but announced: the Cadillac Celestiq. The debut of the flagship electric sedan is scheduled for early January 2022.

As previously reported, the Escalade-sized electric novelty will be based on the BT1 platform, which is now based on the GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV, as well as another Chevrolet Silverado EV truck (both brands owned by General Motors is coming soon).

In addition to the brand already mentioned, there are others in the GM app: among them are Acsendiq, Lumistiq and Vistiq (as we can see, they all end in the same two letters of the English alphabet and, perhaps in the future, they will be related to the “battery” Cadillac family). Another name is Escalade IQL. It is possible that this name will receive a version of the long-wheelbase electric SUV. It is worth noting here that the presence of registered trademarks does not always guarantee their use by the company for production models.

The current Cadillac Escalade was introduced last February. To date, the price of an SUV in the domestic market starts at $ 77,790, which at the current rate is equivalent to about 5.8 million conventional units.
