BMW continues to test the 7 series: the new generation sedan drove on camera again
It is expected that the premiere of the next model will take place in 2022, the car will reach dealers in the second half of the year.
The Bavarian brand introduced the 7 series of the current sixth generation (G11 / G12) in 2015, and the model went through a restyling in 2019. According to the Carsalesbase website, in the last “covid” year in the old-world market, the “seven” sold 6346 copies, which is 31.4% less than a year earlier. In 2021, the decline continues: in January-August, dealers sold 3,600 units, which is 9.7% less than in the first eight months of last year.
In the photo: a prototype of the new generation BMW 7 series
The fact that the German company is developing a new generation 7 series car became known last year. At the beginning of the summer, we published a series of pictures: then the novelty fell into the lenses of photo spies. Now the prototypes of the future “seven” are still at the stage of road tests (take place in the southern part of Europe): a disguised sedan was again driven on camera. Another batch of photos shared with us by the Spanish edition of motor.es.
The camouflage film still hides the new generation BMW 7 series almost completely. However, you can still see the location of the head optics, as well as a plate for placing the state registration sign, which is located at the bottom of the bumper. In addition, it is noticeable that the size of the radiator grille will remain the same as that of the current sedan: the branded “nostrils” will not become smaller.
As we reported earlier, it is expected that in the appearance of the future sedan some features from the BMW iX crossover presented last fall will be traced. The rear lights will be placed horizontally, they will go on the trunk lid. In the center of the stern will be a round white and blue brand logo.
The new car is expected to have a large wheelbase (however, the distance between the axles is not specified), this will provide the driver and passengers with a spacious interior. Judging by the previous pictures, the new “seven” will have a very rich interior: the photo made it possible to see several large screens. Probably, one of them plays the role of a “virtual” instrument panel, and the second – a touchscreen of a multimedia system.
According to the publication, the next generation 7 series will be based on the new CLAR We platform. The Bavarian company is expected to bet on electrification. At the same time, traditional gasoline and diesel engines are likely to remain in the lineup. The range is likely to include mild hybrids (MHEV), a pair of plug-in hybrid variants (PHEV), as well as an all-electric version of the 7.
It is assumed that the premiere of the next BMW 7 series will take place next year, the car will reach dealers in the second half of the year. The prices of the future novelty in the company have not yet been disclosed. Note that now on the home market the current version of the “seven” can be bought for at least 91,700 euros, which is equivalent to about 7.57 million conventional units at the current rate.
