Huawei introduced the first crossover under the AITO brand
Huawei held a large-scale presentation in China, during which a foldable smartphone, smart glasses and many other gadgets were presented, as well as a car. The AITO M5 crossover is a joint development with Seres, which is owned by the engineering company Sokon Industry Group, and former Tesla co-founder Martin Iberhard is one of its leaders.
Huawei and Seres started cooperation last year. Last spring, the Huawei Smart Selection SF5 crossover entered the market, which is only a slightly modified Seres SF5 model, supplemented by Huawei on-board electronics. Cooperation has reached a new level.
The creators propose to decipher the name AITO as Adding Intelligence To Auto. Moreover, the AITO M5 crossover is made on the same aggregate basis as the Seres SF5, but its body, interior and electronics are completely new, developed with the direct participation of Huawei.
In terms of dimensions, AITO M5 is a classmate of the Jaguar F-Pace or Genesis GV70 crossovers: length – 4770 mm, width – 1930 mm, height – 1625 mm. Wheelbase – 2880 mm. This is a sequential hybrid, in which the wheels are driven by electric motors, and the turbo-petrol 1.5 (125 hp) operates exclusively in generator mode to recharge the 40 kW ∙ h traction battery.
There are two all-wheel drive modifications to choose from, which differ only in the power of the electric motors. The base version has 428 hp. (224 on the front axle and 204 on the rear), while the Performance version has 496 hp and can accelerate to “hundreds” in 4.4 seconds. The developers said that with a fully charged battery and a full tank of gasoline, the AITO M5 will be able to travel 1100 km (according to the modern WLTC cycle), and the average fuel consumption is 0.8 l / 100 km.
The main feature of the interior is a multimedia system with a Harmony OS shell from Huawei and a 15.6-inch display. It is integrated into the ecosystem with gadgets from other Huawei brands and has extensive online functionality. The sound system is also branded Huawei Sound. A camera is mounted on the windshield pillar to capture the driver. The screen of the device has a diagonal of 10.4 inches.
The AITO M5 crossover is richly equipped: there are adaptive LED headlights, front seats with ventilation and massaging, adaptive cruise control (with radar and camera), a panoramic roof, all-round cameras and much more. USB sockets are not only on the center console, but also in the door pockets, so you can leave the gadget there to charge.
Deliveries of AITO M5 crossovers will begin in the spring of 2022 and will be manufactured at the Sokon plant in Chongqing, which also produces Seres crossovers. The declared prices range from 39 thousand to 50 thousand dollars, but this is already taking into account government subsidies. Huawei will sell AITO vehicles through its network of stores and online platforms. And in 2023, the debut of the second model is expected: it will be a full-size electric crossover.
