The Japanese brand launches an updated crossover on the market. The front was made, like a Ridgeline pickup truck, in the cabin with virtually no new elements. The reform engine was not touched.

The American division of Honda (the United States is the main market for the model) announced a transformed passport back in September, but then it showed the crossover only in the new “off-road” version of the TrailSport. Now all configurations have been declassified, prices have been announced at the same time. Recall that the cross, for which the Passport name was revived (it was once called the double of the Isuzu Rodeo SUV chassis), has been in service since 2018, in fact it is a shortened version of the three-row Honda Pilot. At the same time, the five-seater SUV is noticeably inferior to its older brother, although this year it managed to gain an advantage: according to the company itself, from January to November 2021, the Passport was sold throughout the United States with a circulation of 2 people. 48,524 copies (+38%), while Pilot acquired 131,776 owners (+19%) in the same period.

As a result of the facelift, the younger crossover received a new front bumper, fog lights, front fenders and hood – and all this now comes from the Honda Ridgeline pickup truck. The rear bumper has also been replaced, as has the grille, and the exposed round exhaust pipes are larger. The assortment of discs has also been updated. The “chips” of the same Passport TrailSport: a lighter mesh on the grille and silver protective lining on the bumpers, the track of such a crossover is expanded by 10 mm, in addition, the model has special wheels with 245 / 60R18 tires.

In the cabin, the changes are rather modest: a different decorative stitching and a new illumination of the instrument cluster. Inside the TrailSport are orange stitching on the seats, steering wheel and door panels, as well as an embroidered logo in the same color on the front seat headrests.

The trim line was cut, the cheaper Sport and the third oldest Touring were dropped. In total, from now on, along with the TrailSport, the Honda Passport has only three versions. The EX-L version has become a new “base”, in its arsenal: 20-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, “leather” interior, heated front seats, an 8-inch multimedia system, a seat belt warning system and “forgotten” passengers in the rear seat (new for the model), a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking systems, monitoring of “blind” zones and lane keeping. The TrailSport is a “medium” configuration, in addition to the distinctive features mentioned above, there are satellite navigators, LED fog lights, handrails and a built-in compass. And finally

There are also several additional packages for the crossover. For example, as with the Honda Ridgeline pickup, a Honda Performance Development (HPD) package can be ordered for an additional fee, which includes black fender flares, body decals and bronze wheels.

The reform methodology has not been affected: the Honda Passport is offered with a 284-hp 3.5 V6 petrol engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The base EX-L crossover is available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive i-VTM4 (with single pivots for the rear wheels), other versions are available only with all-wheel drive. Ground clearance according to the passport with 2WD is 190 mm, for all-wheel drive vehicles – 206 mm.

Crossover restyling will cost 37,870 – 45,430 dollars (excluding shipping and taxes), which is equivalent to approximately 2,807,000 – 3,367,000 conventional units at the current rate. A pre-reform passport cost from $32,790 (2,430,000 conventional units). By the way, the old Honda rider is now cheaper – from $ 36,830 (2,730,000 conditional units).

Meanwhile, TrailSport isn't just one of the Passport trim levels, it's a separate sub-brand created by challenging Subaru with its Wilderness. “Off-road” decor: only the first stage, Honda should appear later with a retuned suspension, increased ground clearance and enhanced underbody protection. But we still won't see a “hardcore” Honda lately, because the company is reducing car sales in our country from next year.
