Lion “for”: the new Peugeot 308 is presented
Peugeot introduced the third generation of the 308 hatchback. And this is a qualitative change in a small European car. Here's a commercial for you, apparently filmed by Zack Snyder – otherwise I can't explain 4:3 in 2021:
Design
If in the past generation the 308 looked calm and even family, then the new car received a more aggressive appearance. Here is a comparison of the two generations:
Agree, green looks much more interesting. By the way, they presented not only the car, but also the new Peugeot nameplate:
The new generation Peugeot 308 has greatly increased in size: 4367 × 1852 × 1444 mm versus 4253 × 1815 × 1464 mm for its predecessor. The wheelbase has grown by 55 mm, reaching 2675 mm.
But here, of course, it is worth singing the praises of the company's designers. Although, I suppose the car looks unsightly from certain angles, so there are no photos in the press release showing the car from the point of view of a person standing on straight legs.
The showroom features a new generation Peugeot i-Cockpit. There is a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 10-inch multimedia touch screen. The salon came out chopped, because of which it may seem to the uninitiated viewer that this is some kind of Audi:
From modern goodies, the Drive Assist 2.0 semi-autonomous driving system has appeared, which automatically overtakes at a speed of 70-180 km / h, changing lanes, adjusts the speed to the turn, keeps it in the lane, and also warns the driver about speed limits. There is also USB Type-C and wireless phone chargers.
Iron
308 is built on the EMP 2 platform.
The engines are:
- Petrol three-cylinder turbocharged PureTech 1.2 with 110 hp. with. and 205 Nm. Only a six-speed manual transmission is available here;
- Petrol three-cylinder turbocharged PureTech 1.2 with 130 hp. with. and 230 Nm. There is already a choice of either a similar “mechanics” or an eight-band “automatic”;
- Diesel BlueHDi 1.5 produces 130 hp. with. and 300 Nm. Available with “mechanics” and “automatic”.
In addition to the usual ones, there are also hybrid versions:
- Hybrid 180 e-EAT8: PureTech 1.6 petrol engine (150 hp, 250 Nm) is paired with an electric motor integrated into the automatic transmission with a power equivalent to 110 hp. with. and 320 Nm. The total power is 180 hp. with. and 360 Nm. This version received a battery with a capacity of 12.4 kWh. Only on it one car is able to drive 60 km on the WLTP cycle;
- Hybrid 225 e-EAT8: PureTech 1.6 gasoline engine (there is already more power – 180 hp, but the torque is the same 250 Nm) is paired with the same electric motor integrated into the “automatic”. The total power is already 225 hp. with. and 320 Nm of torque. On a similar battery, a car without starting the internal combustion engine will travel 59 km.
There are three options for charging 12.4 kWh batteries:
- Branded Wall Box with a current of 32 A. It will completely replenish the charge in about two hours;
- A reinforced 16 A socket will recharge the battery in almost four hours;
- A standard 8A outlet will take more than seven hours to recharge a travel battery.
Access
The Peugeot 308 will begin assembly in the second half of the year in the northeastern French city of Mulhouse. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
But recently, the hatchback is unlikely to reach: local assembly is not provided, which is why the previous generation Peugeot 308 has not been sold since 2018 – it was too expensive compared to competitors who have been assembled recently.
