Updated BMW 8 Series family: illuminated grille and larger screen

“Eight” slightly changed the appearance, also expanded the list of equipment. Models of the restyled family are now available for order recently.

The revival of BMW's eighth series began with the coupe and its open version introduced in 2018. A year later, four-door Gran Coupes and M8 supercars (coupe, convertible and sedan) joined the family. But they decided not to divide the debut of the modernized cars into parts – the updated G8s were revealed all at once. By the way, at the end of last year, the BMW 8 Series in Europe was in the red: according to JATO Dynamics statistics, 3,189 sedans and 2,630 two-doors were registered there, which is 16% and 30% less, respectively, than in 2020.

All G-8s now come with the M Sport package, which means more aggressive bumpers, side skirts, 19-inch wheels and heavy-duty brakes. Also the M850i versions have full emox mirrors. In addition, the Coupé, Convertible and Gran Coupé now feature the BMW Iconic Glow grille with two vertical slats, a thicker bezel and factory lighting that can be activated automatically when the vehicle is unlocked or at the owner's request. At the same time, the BMW M8 has not changed outwardly, but new body colors are provided for all versions.

The main innovation in the cabin is an improved multimedia system with a 12.3-inch screen instead of 10.25 inches. This screen is mandatory for all machines in the family. In addition, the Eight Series models included a driver's seat memory function, paddle shifters, and Merino leather upholstery as standard.

The technique is old. recently all-wheel drive versions of the 840i xDrive (3.0, 340 hp), 840d xDrive (3.0, 320 hp) and M850i xDrive (4.4, 530 hp) are available. Elsewhere, the base 840i is still available with rear-wheel drive. But full-fledged “emki” everywhere remained only in the Competition version with a 625-horsepower 4.4 engine, the 600-horsepower engine was excluded from the range. Recall that the top model BMW M8 Competition will pick up the first “hundred” in 3.2 seconds (convertible — in 3.3 seconds).

The production of the updated “eights” will begin in March, while orders have already been opened recently. A coupe costs from 8,330,000 conventional units, a convertible – from 9,270,000 conventional units, for a Gran Coupe sedan you need to pay at least 8,000,000 conventional units.
