Updated crossover BYD Tang EV increased range
The 4.9 m long Tang crossover is the most expensive and prestigious BYD model. Now the second generation of the Tang model of 2018 is in service: first the hybrid BYD Tang DM appeared, and then the electric Tang EV. The cars went through a planned update in the same order: the upgraded hybrid debuted last year, now with a new DM-i inline-parallel system without a traditional gearbox. Now there is an updated BYD Tang EV.
If before the hybrid and electric versions had a minimum of visual differences, now the Tang EV has distanced itself from the version with an internal combustion engine. There is no longer a fake radiator grille, the front mask is now “deaf”. The bumpers have been redesigned and the new wheels create less aerodynamic turbulence.
After the hybrid, the electric car received a new interior, including a steering wheel (two-spoke instead of three-spoke) and door panels. The power seat controls that used to be located on the Mercedes-style doors are now moved to the bottom of the seats, as in most cars. The front panel architecturally repeats the previous one, but the location and size of the ventilation deflectors have been changed. A distinctive feature has been preserved – the rotating screen of the media system, which now has a diagonal of 15.6 inches. The multimedia itself is a new generation of DiLink 4.0. The instrument screen has a diagonal of 12.3 inches, there is also a projection screen.
So far, the Tang (including hybrids) has only been offered as a seven-seater with three rows of seats. And for the updated electric car, for the first time, a new six-seater version was proposed: separate seats with full electric drive, heating, ventilation and vibration massage were installed in the second row. Finishing has been enriched, among the options is a Dynaudio audio system and a panoramic roof.
Now about technology. The main novelty is lithium-iron-phosphate traction batteries of the Blade series. While the Tang EV used to have an 86.4 kWh battery, it now has 95 kWh for the front-wheel drive version and 108.8 kWh for the all-wheel drive version. The power of the engines has not changed, but they themselves have been upgraded and consume less energy.
The base BYD Tang EV with a 245 hp electric motor can now travel up to 615 km (according to the NEDC cycle) on a single charge, compared to 565 km for the pre-facelift version. The all-wheel drive crossover has the same front engine, and a 272-horsepower engine is installed on the rear axle, for a total of 517 hp. Its mileage on a single charge has increased from 505 to 700 km according to the NEDC cycle, the passport acceleration time to 100 km/h is 4.4 s. All cars are equipped with Brembo brakes and new generation DiPilot adaptive cruise control.
In the Chinese market, all this splendor can be bought in May. Approximate price range: from 47 thousand to 55 thousand dollars. Hybrid BYD Tang DM-i is cheaper – from 31 thousand dollars.
