Jeep announced the updated Renegade: in some places the crossover will lose diesel

3

The American brand has launched a teaser campaign for an updated version of its more affordable model. Brazilians will be among the first to receive such an SUV.

Sharing the Small Wide 4×4 platform with the Fiat 500X, the Jeep Renegade small crossover debuted in 2015; The first restyling took place in 2018. And now the updated Jeep is on the way: teasers, as well as photos and videos with a test prototype in camouflage, were distributed by the Brazilian division of Stellantis. Please note that Brazil is one of the largest markets for this model; Crosses of local production are sold here.

So far, only the most “off-road” version of the Renegade, the Trailhawk version, has been demonstrated. The cross has new bumpers, there are more “spaces” under the vertical slots of the brand. The round headlights remained as square taillights, but the fill of the optics changed. The salon has not been exhibited yet. Most likely, a modern multimedia system was installed in the cabin, and the trim materials could be replaced. The rest of the versions clearly have the same restyling program.

In Brazil, after restyling, the crossover will lose the 2.0 Multijet turbodiesel (170 hp) and the naturally aspirated 1.8 EtorQ engine (135 hp on gasoline and 139 hp on ethanol, very popular in this country). They will be replaced by a locally produced “turbo quattro” 1.3 Turbo 270 Flex (or simply T270): on gasoline it produces 180 hp, on ethanol – 185 hp, maximum torque – 270 Nm (regardless of fuel). The same engine is used in the Brazilian Jeep Compass and Commander, as well as in the Fiat Toro pickup truck. The front-wheel drive Renegade will be equipped with a six-speed automatic, the all-wheel drive crossover will be equipped with 9AT.

According to Brazilian journalists who have already managed to drive a prototype, Renegade with a new turbo engine accelerates from standstill to 100 km in 9.7 – 9.9 seconds (ethanol – gasoline). The maximum speed is about 200 km / h. The passport time of the pre-reform diesel SUV with 9AT and all-wheel drive is 9.9 seconds, the maximum speed is 190 km / h.

By the way, Jeep will not remain in Brazil without a diesel engine, only a “heavy” gasoline engine will become the prerogative of old SUVs (Compass and Commander can be bought with the same 2.0 Multijet).

Restyling Jeep Renegade will officially take place in Brazil in the first quarter of next year. Then the crossover will be updated in other markets, but in other countries the model will have its own line of engines (for example, in Europe there is a hybrid).

The Renegade has left late this year, demand has been low, with only 136 units sold in 2020, 59 units sold in eight months of 2021 (no more cars in September). Although it is possible that the younger Jeep will return to us in an updated form.
