SUV Tata Nexon EV will be long-range in the new model year
The Indian green crossover is expected to receive a new battery, and an expanded list of equipment is also being launched.
The Tata Nexon EV electric SUV debuted in 2019 (it has an internal combustion engine brother) and is the most popular battery-powered vehicle in India today, according to local media. In particular, according to the results of the first half of the current financial year (April-September 2021), 3,618 such crosses were sold, although it is possible that most of them were purchased by government agencies. Be that as it may, but occupying the second line of the “green” rating, the MG ZS EV crossover sold 1789 copies in India over the same period, and the result of Hyundai Kona Electric is 51 units. Meanwhile, Tata is gearing up to bring refurbished EVs to market.

According to Autocar India, a 40 kWh battery will be the highlight, with the current 30.2 kWh battery expected to remain in service. According to the Indians, the trunk will “shrink” due to the larger battery, but the exact figure was not disclosed (the volume of the cargo compartment of the current Nexon EV is 350 liters). In addition, the new version will have an increase in curb weight by about 100 kg (the indicator of the current electrocross is 1400 kg).

But the flight range will increase: it is assumed that with a 40 kWh battery, the Nexon EV will be able to travel 400 km. True, this figure is calculated according to Indian standards, and the real range, according to Autocar, will be somewhere in the region of 300-320 km. The passport mileage of an SUV with a 30.2 kWh battery is 312 km (real – 201-216 km, according to Autocar India). For comparison, the MG ZS EV in India has a 44.5 kWh battery, while the Hyundai Kona Electric has a 39.2 kWh battery. The range of the MG model is 419 km, the Hyundai is 452 km (but these figures are also calculated according to local standards).

The publication does not mention the Tata Nexon EV engine, that is, its reforms, apparently, did not suffer: on the current SUV, the electric motor produces 129 hp and 245 Nm (for MG ZS EV – 143 hp and 353 Nm, for Hyundai Kona Electric – 136 hp and 395 Nm). At the same time, the Tata crossover is still expected with cosmetic design changes (such as new wheels), and the list of equipment may be supplemented by a stabilization system.
