Toyota Land Cruiser Prado or Kia Mohave? Snow frame test.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado or Kia Mohave? An interesting question for two original all-wheel drive frame off-road vehicles on our market. Kia Mohave, however, on the frame, but with independent suspension. It is slightly larger and more powerful. Both competitors diesel engines respectively: 2.8TD; 3.0TD, 200/3400 power; 249/3800. In the version for our test, the Korean is also cheaper, the prices are 4,357,000 and 3,709,000 conventional units, respectively.
At the beginning of the comparative test drive of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado or Kia Mohave, let's admire the appearance of frame SUVs. You will find their technical characteristics at the end of my report.
The first exercise is “starting from a place and accelerating to “hundreds””.
The Kia Mohave wins by a wide margin. He showed convincing acceleration on slippery surfaces. Both in terms of power and torque, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is inferior to the Korean SUV. But the Japanese starts well, just as he accelerates, his excitement disappears.
Acceleration from the move.
We usually do acceleration from the move from 60 km / h, simulating overtaking. How confident will a large all-terrain vehicle behave when changing rows.
Let me remind you that there is more power in Korean, Prado, with almost the same engine volume, also loses in terms of torque: 49 Nm.
In two dynamic exercises – a start from a place and a start from the move, Kia Mojave wins, gaining two points at once.
Interior rating from the front.
The interior front and rear of the Toyota Prado and Kia Mojav are shown in detail in the video, take a look there for comparison. The experts argued for a long time and gave a draw for the first row.
Rear interior rating.
On the second row, the score goes to Toyota Prado. Experts argued about the rear seats and the trunk. Mojave has a third row of seats, Toyota does not supply Prado with a third row. One of the opinions: if the Mojave loses in the second row, then it certainly should have an advantage in the trunk – after all, the third row can be folded.
Experts gave a point to the Japanese for space. To this we must add that the second row of the Mojave is still better equipped.
Luggage assessment.
The huge gate opening to the RIGHT on the Prado is terribly inconvenient (look at the video). The opening glass is amazing for a seven-seat version, which we don't have. Through it, it is very good to fill the gap between the third row and the fifth door with things in a seven-seat configuration. Throwing, for example, purchases from a supermarket into the hold through this window is a so-so and forced occupation when you don't open the “gate” in the parking lot. This happens when a car parks close behind the Prado.
As for the trunks, whatever one may say, it turned out to be a draw. See video for details.
I want to talk separately about the third row. Everyone determines its advantages for himself.
So yes, when the third row is not, in principle, it is, as it were, not needed. When it is, it is periodically in demand. Let's say there is a need to go with six (seven are extremely rare). Three hours with coffee at the gas station is easy for a medium-sized, middle-aged adult in the third row to endure. So it seems that it is not necessary, but when it is, it will definitely not be worse.
The lap on the cross-country track is won by the Toyota Prado.
Kia Mojave “suspension” rides worse, the grip of the front axle is worse, it is more difficult to get into turns.
Passing obstacles behind Toyota Prado.
Toyota Prado promises 215 mm of ground clearance and confirms sufficient height in our test. Kia promises a ground clearance of 217 mm, but drove a snow wall a little worse. The clearance of the Japanese is actually 1.5 cm higher.
Off-road.
Off-road test drive Toyota Land Cruiser Prado or Kia Mohave provides three comparisons to determine how four-wheel drive, vehicle geometry, suspension travel, electronics work. Entrance to a snowy hill, climbing to a great height, butting with a sheer wall wins Toyota Prado. The Japanese drove further and more confidently. He also has a lock on the rear axle, which is not in Mojave, the Korean has all hope for electronics.
Summarizing.
Total test drive score of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado or Kia Mohave: 6:4 in favor of Toyota Prado.
Kia Mohave is a fast all-wheel drive utility vehicle. It can easily deal with summer drifts, but for serious off-road, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is still better suited. It loses in dynamics, but is generally more versatile for users. On the side of the Korean is still a lower price in high trim levels.
