Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban 2020. Overview, specifications.
The new Tahoe and Suburban are widely unified with the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, in addition to technology, they share part of the body panels, as well as the design of the front: from the two-story optics, only the styling in the form of LED brackets for running lights remains. The headlights themselves are now LED and located on the upper level. Wheels – diameter 18, 20 or 22 inches.
Design and dimensions
SUVs have found a new, more durable frame, which allowed the floor to be lowered in the cabin. Tahoe has become noticeably larger than its predecessor: the wheelbase is 3071 mm., The length is 5351 mm. width -2058 mm tt height -1927 mm.
Suburban
wheelbase – 3407 mm, length 5732 mm.
Linkers disposed of the increase in length in different ways. At Tahoe, it is evenly distributed between the third row of seats (40% more legroom!) And the trunk, the volume of which has grown from 433 to 733 liters according to the American SAE method. Chevrolet Suburban also boasts a more spacious third row, but the compartment behind it has not changed much in volume: 1164 liters instead of 1113 for the previous model.
The increase in length, coupled with an increased cabin height and an optimized seat folding mechanism, made it possible to significantly increase the maximum capacity of the luggage compartment. The Tahoe has 3,479 liters (up 30%) with the second and third row seats folded down, while the Suburban holds 4,097 liters (up 19%). By the way, the second row for the first time has found longitudinal adjustment (range 254 mm), and it has both a basic three-seater sofa and optional separate chairs.
Interior
The developers did not follow the trend and kept the classic devices (as many as six analog scales), the rotating light control knob and the abundance of buttons on the center console. However, they still abandoned the traditional “automatic” steering column poker: instead, a push-button box control panel appeared on the right of the steering wheel, on which there are even “+” and “–” keys for shifting gears.
Equipment
Basic equipment includes a ten-inch media system screen (it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions) and a modest 4.2-inch trip computer display. But for a fee, an eight-inch screen in the instrument cluster, a 15-inch head-up display, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch screens are offered.
Complete set
There are six equipment options to choose from: these are the “regular” LS and LT, the off-road Z71, the “sporty” RST, as well as the rich Premier and High Country versions. Options include a Wi-Fi transmitter, a panoramic roof, nine all-round cameras (including a remote camera for mounting on a trailer) and a set of electronic assistants.
Suspension
And the main innovation in terms of technology is an independent rear suspension instead of the previous continuous axle. “In the base” – springs and passive shock absorbers, for an extra charge, as before, you can order the Magnetic Ride Control suspension, which adjusts the stiffness of the shock absorbers. But in addition, Tahoe and Suburban are offered for the first time with air suspension, which can change the ride height in the range of 102 mm.
Engine
There are three engines to choose from, and among them now there is a turbodiesel: such engines have not been installed on the Tahoe and Suburban for almost 20 years. The 3.0-liter Duramax straight-six was developed by GM and is already known from Silverado pickups, it produces 281 hp. and 623 Nm. V8 petrol aspirators are the same, but slightly modernized: they have direct fuel injection, a phase shifter on a single camshaft and a system for deactivating some of the cylinders at low loads. The 5.3-liter engine (360 hp, 519 Nm) remained the main one, and the 6.2 engine (426 hp, 623 Nm) is intended for the top version of the High Country.
Transmission
All versions have a ten-speed automatic, developed jointly with the Ford concern. As usual in America, the basic versions will have rear-wheel drive, and for a fee, an all-wheel drive transmission with a front-wheel drive clutch and a reduction gear is offered.
