Announced a new budget SUV Citroen: the model will be global

The compact “five-door” will be produced at at least two sites. According to preliminary data, the model is based on a simplified version of the CMP “cart”.

The information that the Citroen brand is preparing a whole family of inexpensive compacts designed for emerging markets has been circulating on the Web for a long time. And since 2020, camouflaged test prototypes began to be caught in India and Brazil, because it is in these countries that production will be established. Moreover, last spring photos of a certain toy car appeared – it is believed that this is a scale model of one of the upcoming new products. And now the first state employee was officially announced: the teaser was simultaneously distributed by the Indian, Brazilian and Argentine divisions of the brand. The Argentines, by the way, also declassified the name on their pages in social networks, however, then they corrected themselves and removed the name. But, as you know, the Internet remembers everything: in South America, models were assigned the C3 index (not to be confused with the current Eurohatch). The premiere will be held tomorrow, September 16th.

It is assumed that Citroen will position the novelty as an SUV, although it looks more like a hatchback. The front part was designed in the current style of the brand: the “five-door” received a two-tier head optics, in addition, each of the parts of the branded double chevron ends with an LED strip. There are roof rails on the roof, and if the previously illuminated toy really repeats the production car, then the new Citroen still got an unpainted plastic body kit.

Some Brazilian media write that the cross is based on the CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform, on which the latest Citroen C4, Peugeot 208 (for South America it is produced in Argentina) and Opel Mokka are also based. Argentinean and Indian specialized media clarify that this is a simplified version of the global “cart”. The Volkswagen concern did the same with the MQB-A0 platform: it was simplified specifically for India, turning it into the MQB-A0-IN (the first-born of this “trolley” were the Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun SUVs). Well, we note that the European hatchback Citroen C3 is built on the old PF1 platform.

In Brazil, the new Citroen is tipped to have an “aspirated” 1.6, familiar from other local models of the former PSA concern (together with FCA, this company merged into the Stellantis alliance), and a 1.0 petrol “turbo engine” from the Fiat Pulse crossover. In India, they rely on the gasoline “troika” 1.2 (“aspirated” and turbo version). Drive in any case only front.

SUVs assembled in Brazil will probably be delivered not only to Argentina, but also to other countries in South America, and Indian-made crosses may appear, for example, in South Africa. As for the rest of the new Citroen compacts, according to unofficial data, a sedan and a hatchback are still planned, but there are no details about these models yet. However, until recently state employees are still unlikely to get there.
