Volkswagen spotlights ‘second’ Amarok again and confirms V6 diesel

2

There is not much time left before the premiere of the new generation truck, which will become the sister of the Ford Ranger, but it will go on sale only at the end of the year. Despite the relationship with Ford, it will not be possible to confuse the models – the “German" has an original appearance.

The first official image of the new VW Amarok pickup was published in 2020, and several more branded sketches appeared last year. And here is another photo, in addition, Volkswagen shared fresh information. And the company finally announced the timing of the presentation: the model will be fully revealed next summer.

Recall that in the second generation Amarok will become the closest relative of the new Ford Ranger, which was shown last fall. But the exterior design of the "German", of course, has its own – the VW station wagon has original optics and a radiator grille, "square" wheel arches and generally sharper features. The interior will also have a different design from Ford, although following the “American”, the new Amarok will receive a multimedia system with a vertical touch screen.

The "second" Amarok is advertised to be 100mm longer and nearly 40mm wider than its predecessor. The indicators of the previous truck with a two-row cab are 5254 and 1954 mm, respectively. Of the dimensions of the new Ford Ranger, only the wheelbase is known so far: 3,270 mm versus 3,097 mm for the old VW Amarok.

Volkswagen also said that, like its predecessor, the next generation pickup truck will be available with a "powerful V6 TDI diesel", but no details have been given yet. The line of the old truck includes a three-liter V6 turbodiesel with a capacity of 258 hp and 580 Nm. By the way, a 3.0 V6 engine for the new Ranger has also been announced (power not yet announced). In addition, the "second" Amarok will be offered with junior diesels and a gasoline engine; most likely the same as the related Ford. For the latter, a four-cylinder turbodiesel 2.0 (with a turbocharger or biturbo) and a gasoline “turbo four” 2.3 are announced (it's a pity that its return has not yet been named).

The new VW Amarok was previously thought to be built in two locations, Argentina and South Africa, but today's announcement only mentions Africa. At the same time, the Argentine plant, according to preliminary data, will continue to produce the “first” pickup truck for some time. In Germany, truck production ended in 2020, but the new Amarok will arrive in Europe. Orders in some markets will begin to be accepted later this year. The model left recently last year, the second generation VW Amarok will not be brought to us, which was officially announced.
