On the other hand, why reinvent the wheel if someone has already come up with something. But it was not always so. Let's remember all the families of cars and figure out which of them was developed independently by VAZ, and which with the involvement of other auto brands.

VAZ 2101, VAZ 2102 and VAZ 2103

The history of the construction of the plant is inseparably linked with the cars VAZ 2101 and VAZ 2103. In the 1960s, the leadership of the #USSR organized something like a tender to find a partner for the construction of a plant with the launch of production of a serial car. The tender was won by the Italian Fiat. According to the agreement, the Italians help build a car plant in Tolyatti and transfer all the documentation for the licensed assembly of cars on the FIAT-124 platform: a sedan and station wagon in the “norm” configuration and a sedan in the “luxury” configuration).

So, on the basis of the FIAT-124 platform, the VAZ-2101 (sedan in the “norm” configuration), VAZ-2102 (station wagon in the “norm” configuration) and VAZ-2103 (sedan in the “luxury” configuration) appeared on the domestic market. Even then, a special domestic trend was set, when #VAZ not only takes the platform and changes only the logo on the #car, but significantly refines the platform under the harsh Russian conditions.

Almost immediately after the launch of #VAZ-2101 into mass production, VAZ designers set about developing the first SUV with a boat on the radiator grill for rural residents. Even at the stage of drawings – many decisions were taken from the already produced Zhiguli. But this was not enough to launch an SUV in a series. It took 5 years of fruitful engineering work to launch the VAZ-2121 off-road vehicle in 1977. The car turned out to be so successful that today it is assembled in #Tolyatti on the same platform. And #Niva is loved in many countries of the world for its special and unique character.

After signing the contract with FIAT, the relationship with them began to deteriorate rapidly due to their greed. Like a school story from childhood, when an excellent student does not let you write off. The Italians did not share advanced technologies with the Soviet partner, constantly slipping junk for third world countries. #AVTOVAZ has found a new partner in the person of the German Porsche. Together with them, in 1984, the first domestic car with front-wheel drive VAZ 2108 on the Gamma platform was mass-produced.

The contract with Porsche included work on upgrading the Gamma platform to Gamma-2 (LADA 110). The first prototype LADA 110 appeared already in 1985. Serial production was planned for 1992, but due to the political and economic crisis, the start of production was delayed until 1995. The well-known “ten” is actually the third generation of the VAZ 2108 car. AVTOVAZ is the only manufacturer in the world that simultaneously produced the first (VAZ 2108), second (LADA 2114), third (LADA 111) and fourth generation (LADA Priora) of one car simultaneously. VAZ-1111 “Oka”

VAZ-1111 “Oka” was created by almost all domestic car factories. It all started with the fact that the SeAZ plant could not cope with the order to develop the first front-wheel drive car of a small class. After that, VAZ was connected, whose engineers, of all Serpukhov's developments, left only the name “OKA”. Then KAMAZ joined in, but AVTOVAZ retained the leading role, which brought the car to mass production.
