Maserati GranTurismo Folgore: classic proportions and 1200 hp electric motors.
The Italian luxury brand Maserati, part of the Stellantis Corporation, has published the first official photos of the new generation GranTurismo coupe, which will hit the market in 2023. This will be the first Maserati model to be offered with an all-electric powertrain, but petrol versions are also planned. Only in 2030, Maserati will abandon the internal combustion engine and completely switch to electric vehicles.
The previous generation Maserati GranTurismo was produced at the brand's historic Modena, Italy plant between 2007 and 2019 and, along with its open-top GranCabrio sibling, sold over 40,000 units worldwide. A successor was expected as early as 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed back the debut date to 2023. The new Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be built at the Mirafiori diversified plant in Turin (small electric Fiat 500e and large Maserati). Today, Levante petrol crossovers are assembled here), and the modernized plant in Modena now produces the flagship Maserati MC20 sports car.

The new petrol GranTurismo and GranCabrio will likely borrow Nettuno's technically advanced 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine from the MC20, but the brand's latest press release shows an electric variant of the Folgore (Italian for “lightning”) range. Maserati will receive the Folgore name prefix). As you can see from the photos, the new GranTurismo retains the classic proportions of its predecessor, but the bodywork is completely new, and the lighting technology is reduced in size and made in the style of the same MC20.

There is still little official information about the technical stuffing of the GranTurismo Folgore: the electric sports car will receive a trimotor with a capacity of more than 1200 hp and will be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds. The maximum speed exceeds 300 km/h. The power reserve on a single charge is unlikely to be great, but the 800-volt architecture and technology borrowed from Formula E will allow you to quickly “feed” the battery into powerful charging terminals.

Meanwhile, Maserati's next big thing will be the Grecale midsize crossover, which will be revealed next week. The Grecale will have an all-electric version in 2023, and the GranCabrio electric convertible will debut the same year.
By 2025, all Maserati models will have electric versions, which means the Folgore family will be replenished with the MC20 battery supercar, the Quattroporte sedan and the Levante crossover, by which time the Quattroporte and Levante will switch generations. Full “greening”, that is, the disappearance of models with internal combustion engines from the production program, is scheduled for 2030. However, judging by the “floating” announcements of other brands of Stellantis, the abandonment of the internal combustion engine may be postponed to an earlier date.
The Maserati brand has attached a brief report on the work in 2021 to the GranTurismo Folgore teasers. Like all luxury brands, Maserati has been able to dramatically increase sales, up 41% (compared to 2020) to 24,269 vehicles amid the pandemic and increasing social stratification. 59% of this volume was accounted for by the Levante crossover, 33% by the mid-size Ghibli sedan, which, apparently, will not have a new generation (in any case, it is not in official plans).
Today it is impossible to say anything definite about the prospects for Maserati in recent times in light of the well-known geopolitical upheavals.
