Overview of the restored car GAZ-67B
Greetings friends!
I present to your attention the car GAZ-67B. This machine was restored, so to speak, from a pile of scrap metal. For this reason, in part, it does not correspond to the original of this model a little.
I consider this moment forgivable, since a lot of time has passed since they were released brand new from the factory. And with the existing shortage of components, it is almost impossible to assemble a car in its original form.
GAZ-67B is an upgraded version of the GAZ-64. I will not delve into the topic of the entire modernization in detail, there is a lot of information on the Internet about this.
A bit of history.
GAZ-67B was produced by the GAZ plant from 1943 to 1953 in small batches and was intended for the needs of the army, where it served as a headquarters, reconnaissance vehicle, and could also function as a tractor for light artillery pieces. In total, about 92 thousand copies were released.
GAZ-67B has a frame structure and has all-wheel drive with a 4 × 4 wheel arrangement.
When you see the car, the first thing that catches your eye is the open top and the absence of doors. This body arrangement is called PHAETON.
If you look closely at the emblem of the car, you will notice that it is soldered to the body of the car with solder and resembles the emblem of the FORD brand in its appearance.
Since the car performed the function of a tractor, towing mounts are located on it in front and behind. In front, these are two huge hooks that remind me of the curved fangs of a wild boar with their appearance. The weight of the transported trailer should not exceed 1200 kilograms.
In terms of capacity, the car is 4-seater, with the ability to take about 100 kilograms of cargo. The total carrying capacity of the GAZ-67B is approximately 450 kilograms.
In the front part, a common sofa is provided for boarding a passenger and a driver.
In the rear, two passengers are located opposite each other, on the metal fenders of the car body.
The most interesting thing for me in the car is the location of the 40-liter fuel tank in the front right under the windshield, where the filler neck is right in the center.
I note that on the car of 1943, a fuel sensor was already provided, it is located on the instrument panel at the very top. The principle of operation is very simple: there is a float on one part of the metal lever, and a scale with numbers on the other, and this whole structure is located inside the tank, separated from the outer part by glass. The spare fuel tank is located under the driver's seat.
Also on the instrument panel are: a current sensor, it can be used to determine whether the battery is charging or not, an oil pressure sensor and a coolant (water) sensor. The voltage in the car's electrical network is 6 volts. In my case, it is converted to 12 volts. The engine is started from the starter, or from the so-called crooked manual starter.
Let's take a look under the car.
The weak point of the GAZ-67B was considered the front axle. He caused a lot of trouble to the designers due to the fact that the car had a small turning angle or its swivel joints constantly failed.
In addition, the front axle is suspended from the frame by four quarter-elliptical leaf springs, paired with two linkage hydraulic shock absorbers. This type of suspension is extremely unreliable due to the fact that leaf springs often break.
Semi-elliptical springs are installed on the rear suspension of the GAZ-67B car; they are famous for their reliability, while the rear axle itself did not cause trouble during operation.
Underhood space.
In my case, under the hood of the GAZ-67B, an engine from the GAZ-M-20 car was installed. paired with a four-speed gearbox.
