General Motors introduced a prototype electric Hummer EV
General Motors has unveiled the prototype GMC Hummer EV. This is an electric massive pickup that seems to be as big as the legendary Humvee or H2.
The car will get large 35-inch wheels (optionally can be increased to 39 inches), shod with Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. It has huge ground clearance and air suspension capable of raising the car by 149mm if the circumstances warrant it. And here is the bottom protected by steel sheets:
For a full mince, you can install 18 cameras, two of which will be built into the bottom of the car to see everything that happens under the Hammer. Based on this data, the computer draws a 3D picture of everything that is happening there, so that off-road driving is safe and productive.
The car also knows how to move “crab" at low speeds: the front and rear wheels turn at the same angle and the Hummer EV starts to move diagonally. This riding mode is called Crabwalk.
It is worth noting that some body panels can be removed by making a pickup truck a convertible:
But the doors will remain in place.
By the way, some of the elements can be put in the front trunk:
But the Hummer EV is a car from the present, unlike the outdated Wrangler. This can be seen at least in the cabin with a 13-inch screen, the interface of which is built on the Unreal Engine:
Well, the salon itself is a mixture of both the present and the past of the Hummer brand. For example, I see references to the H2 cabin. True, what about the front seat passenger? Need a handle on the front to hold on to high speeds!
And there will definitely be high speeds here! Electric motors are responsible for this. GM representatives promised four versions. Here are their calculated figures on paper:
- EV2 – this is the cheapest version will receive two motors with a total power of 634 liters. with. with a torque of 10,033 Nm. This version will not receive a fully controlled chassis and air suspension. The range is approximately 400 km, and the maximum charging voltage is 400 V;
- EV2X – It has the same motors as the previous version, but there are a few differences. Firstly, there is a fully controlled chassis and air suspension, and the cruising range will be increased to 480 km. Secondly, the voltage is doubled – 800 V. This allows you to charge the battery for about 150 km in just 10 minutes;
- EV3 has become a crazier version. The total power of the three motors is some insane 811 hp. with. and 12,880 Nm of torque. At the same time, the range remains at the level of the previous version: 483 km;
- Edition 1 will go on sale very first. This will happen in the fall of 2021. And then the guys from GMC gave free rein to their follies: 1014 hp. with. at 15,592 Nm of torque and battery for approximately 560 km. All this allows a huge heavy pickup truck to accelerate to 60 miles / hour (97 km / h) in some fabulous three seconds. Three seconds – and here it goes a hundred:
I remember once I was driving in a Hummer H2 in the passenger seat. And the driver decided to indulge and with an effort pressed the gas pedal. I wanted to hold on to the handle on the front panel and didn’t want the driver to turn somewhere – the car is just huge! And it should be borne in mind that the passport acceleration of the most powerful version of the H2 was 9.1 seconds. And then six seconds faster. GM, WHERE IS MY KNOB ON THE FRONT PANEL???
But the lights are on,
And the wheels are stylish:
Well, in general, the car evokes some primitive feelings, which can be described with just one word: "WANT". Actually, something similar appears at the sight of the new Ford Bronco.
It’s too early to talk about the off-road performance of the new Hummer: most of the illustrations are renders, and the prototype is just a prototype. It will definitely be fast. It will definitely be tough. And he will definitely come out.
The first version, as I said earlier, is expected in the fall of 2021. They will ask for $112,595 in the US before paying all taxes and fees. You can pre-order it right now by giving GM a hundred bucks of a refundable deposit.
A year after this option, a three-engine version will be released for $99,995. The twin-engine version of the EV2X will go on sale no earlier than spring 2023, and the most affordable and simple version will be on sale in 2024.
