Mansory Aston Martin DBX: very evil widebody kit, 800 hp and 3.8 s to “hundreds”
The German tuning studio Mansory Design & Holding GmbH has presented a package of improvements for the British crossover Aston Martin DBX, significantly improving its dynamic performance.
The Aston Martin DBX debuted two years ago but didn’t go into production until the summer of 2020. The crossover has become a real lifesaver for the British company during the crisis: thanks to it, Aston Martin sales in the three best quarters of this year increased by 173% (compared to January-September 2020) to 4250 cars, of which 2186, that is, a little more than half, — DBX. With the introduction of the crossover in the lineup, the company has tripled revenue, but the lion’s share goes to paying off debt, which, according to the British magazine Autocar, Aston Martin plans to get rid of in the next two years, then enter profit and increase sales to 10,000 cars a year.
In a word, the market welcomed the Aston Martin DBX well, although the expectations of some experts and motorists were not very bright at first – they say that too much in this model was borrowed from Mercedes-Benz (in particular, the power unit and electronics.), The technical characteristics are not the best in its category, and the appearance is too "herbivorous". Mansory tried to correct the listed shortcomings of the Aston Martin DBX and presented his vision of the British crossover.
The exterior changes are significant: the DBX looks much more aggressive thanks to a clever widebody body kit, and Mansory says all parts are functional, increase downforce and improve the crossover’s handling at high speeds. Most of the parts are made of so-called forged carbon fiber (the word "forged" in this case has nothing to do with the technical process, it’s jargon) with a black marble effect that harmonizes perfectly with the metallic black of the main body panels.
The most impressive element of the body kit is a stack of spoilers at the stern, the lower one exactly repeats the trapezoidal plastic of the body, the same motif is used in the lime ornament of perforated leather inserts in the cabin. Lime inserts are also found on the outside, even on the 24-inch DX.5 rims specially designed for this model and improving brake cooling. Tire size: 295/30 R 24 front and 355/25 R 24 rear.
The interior has been completely redesigned, but retains British restraint: there are not so many colored inserts, they are unlikely to be an eyesore. Overall, the Mansory Aston Martin DBX has a Lister Stealth aesthetic (based on the Jaguar F-Pace SVR), but the Mansory car looks a little meaner and has a lot more power than the British tuner.
The 4.0-liter turbocharged Mercedes M177 petrol engine on the base Aston Martin DBX develops a maximum power of 550 hp and 700 Nm and is mated to a 9-speed hydromechanical "automatic". The factory crossover accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 291 km/h.
Mansory fitted the M177 with new, more efficient turbochargers, a new control program, a sport air filter and a new exhaust system with tailpipes reaching the center of the rear bumper (in the exhaust, the tailpipes are located at the edges of the bumper). As a result, the power has increased to 800 hp and 1000 Nm, now the crossover is gaining the first “hundred" in 2.8 seconds, the maximum speed has increased to 325 km / h.
For comparison, let’s say that the 640-horsepower Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, holder of the fastest lap time of the Nüburgring Nordschleife in the off-road class, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of "only" 300 km/h. hour
The price of the Mansory Aston Martin DBX has not yet been announced, but it is not critical to its target audience – if they like the modifications, they will get them for the money.
