Mitsubishi Outlander. Ratings and impressions from the angler’s position!
I have been eyeing this model for a very long time. Not finding the desire to ride behind the wheel for a while. Despite even the purchase of the now previous version, one of my friends. With whom we drive a couple of times a year to the lakes of Karelia. He is extremely pleased with the choice. But, firstly, he is significantly older than me; secondly, his previous car was, let's say, of a completely different class. And, therefore, positive feelings are quite logical. But…
Having experienced several different crossovers or, as it is now fashionable to say SUV, the turn has come to the Outlander. And here the story is divided into two storylines. One is related to my relationship with Mitsubishi. By the time I met Aut, I had already visited: Pajero Sport in the previous and new versions, Pajero of the latest generation and L200 in the latest and previous versions. Those. all-wheel drive cars of the Japanese manufacturer are familiar, to put it mildly, firsthand. The second line is connected with crossovers. Let's be frank, but the namesakes of the Outlander listed above are machines of a completely different class and purpose. And you can compare it with them only with a bunch of reservations. But with other crossovers… However, I'm not a supporter of comparisons at all. This is not a thankful job and there is too much subjective in it. Try to ask a question on the thematic forum, who is cooler than Nikon or Canon. And most of the answers will be a vivid illustration of the doom of any comparisons. Anyway!
I don't know how it happened, but Mitsu definitely cannot be attributed to the number of technological and modern cars. The design and functionality, the variety of options and “buns” is rather meager and does not contain the offers that can be found in most of those that can be classified as “competitors”. But… Outlander in this sense is still more modern than its counterparts from the Mitsu clan.
By tradition, I will not pay much attention to the discussion of the external data of the car. Everything is obvious in the photo, and how to evaluate it is a personal matter for everyone. As for me, the car is a real workhorse. Devoid of gloss and pretentiousness. But thoroughbredness is quite caught in the features and curves. One of those that you rarely see in the parking lot of a good restaurant or nightclub, but will certainly be in the parking lot of some business center or enterprise.
But back to the topic of fishing and country travel. External simplicity and the absence of any decorative elements intuitively suggest that a trip along forest roads will be more comfortable. Without fear, damage the branches “all this gloss.” For many, this is an important aspect. Although the car is not without the necessary set of assistants, which make it easier to maneuver in a forest parking lot or a narrow country path.
However, from a practical point of view, the trunk is more important. It's in Aut. And it allows, without unfolding the back row, to fit a decent amount of equipment and gear. Including spinning rods (which is not available to everyone). And, if your boat is towed on a trailer or waiting for you already at the fishing spot, you can be calm about the amount of things that fit in the luggage compartment of the crossover. Of course, this volume is not enough to pack a medium-sized PVC boat, a motor for it and everything else. Here you have to resort to unfolding part or all of the back row. The resulting volume is more than enough. With a trunk a clear set-off!
Handling on the track and consumption. Any fishing starts from the road to the places of fishing. Moreover, this road is often associated not so much with potholes and potholes as with traffic jams at the exit. And pits on city streets are more insidious than a forest path at the entrance to the shore of a reservoir. There are two important parameters in this part. General driving comfort and consumption. As for the first. Not everyone understands this, but a fishing machine does not involve some sort of racing to the limit. And if there is a boat on the trailer, then such maneuvers are excluded. The task is to overcome a decent distance in an even mode, spending a minimum of fuel and driver forces. In order not to come to the place of fishing exhausted by a long journey. Most of the distances of our fishing trips are within 300-800 km to the launch site. I must say that Mitsu is offered a car with several engines. Not everyone is ready to offer such a choice. In my case, this is a 2.4 CTV with 167 hp. Which by the standards of “youth” can be described as “pensioner-style”. However, this power and volume is quite enough for moderate movement on the highway. Small overclocking, the ability to overtake nauseous and trucks without “turning inside out” the car. Those. move in a calm and comfortable way. Exactly what is required from such a car. The destiny of which is certainly not to tear everyone from the traffic light and burn the rubber by putting the arrow. Although, I would note the rather nimble work of the box, which personally surprised me. the ability to overtake nauseas and trucks without “turning inside out” the car. As for the expense. I have never seen the declared 7.8. But even for 10 liters you don’t especially go out. Which in combination with 92 gasoline can be called moderate. The car is not among the economical ones, but you can’t call it gluttonous either. A kind of middle peasant, which allows you to calculate the consumption on the highway over a long distance.
Suspension work. This parameter takes on importance on dead roads. When holes and potholes appear. She have Aut moderately soft. That allows you to drive on forest and dirt roads without feeling the characteristic “podzhopnik” from each pit. As it happens with those crossovers that are more sharpened on a hard road surface. Outu is definitely more comfortable on a dense primer than a freeway.
Total.
Let's rewind a little to the beginning and return to the thought of two “storylines”. As for the brand and the position of Aut within the Mitsubishi family. In my opinion, this is the most modern car of the brand, which is more in line with current trends. Details such as starting from a button (the same L200 is still started with a key) are difficult to unequivocally attribute to positive or negative. But in the modern automotive world, this is just a given, but the key seems to be some kind of bad manners. The same applies to the car as a whole. It does not cause feelings of “wow”, and it should not. This is a real workhorse in its place. Belonging to a well-known Japanese brand eliminates speculation and the need to say a lot of words. As is the case with the more technologically advanced Chinese, Koreans and even the semi-German Skoda. Made in Japan in the minds of many motorists is already the answer to all questions. Although in reality this is not always the case.
As for the second storyline and the position in the crossover environment. In my opinion, this car is one of the most correct in terms of positioning. He does not aspire to the rank of modern and technological. It is unlikely to arouse interest among the younger part of the audience. He doesn't need to appear to be anything more than he really is. In my opinion, this is a good solution as a second car for country trips and fishing trips. Although it may well be the main one. I don’t think this is a good solution for towing a heavy boat, which, of course, a car can handle on the track. But a medium-sized rib, ATV or snowmobile is quite capable.
I'm pretty reserved about Mitsubishi in terms of car valuation. And I often express criticism of some models of this brand. Although the brand itself is very nice to me. So I would fully recommend Out to all those for whom the solution of the problem is higher than “making an impression”.
