Volkswagen ID.3 2020 – electric family ID is born
The new electric hatchback code Volkswagen.3 is presented officially on May 8, 2019 at a special event in Berlin. Interestingly, immediately after the presentation, Volkswagen opened a call for applications for a new electric vehicle ID Volkswagen.3 in 29 European countries. Those wishing to purchase an electric first-born family ID are requested to pay a deposit of 1,000 euros … and wait for confirmation of the full order of the car in April 2020. By the way, available for order only as long as special, limited to 30,000 copies in the version of the Volkswagen ID.3 1st with a price tag of about 40,000 euros (170-horsepower electric motor and 55 kWh battery, which mileage 420 km WLTP cycle).
I would like to add that the basic version code Volkswagen.3 (170-horsepower electric motor, 48 kWh battery, mileage per charge 330 km) will sell for less than 30,000 euros. However, it is planned to produce a long-term Volkswagen code.3 with a 62 kWh battery and a range of 550 km. However, the cost of this version will be around 50,000 euros.
The new golf-class electric hatchback was originally known as the Volkswagen Identifier. but eventually got the id name.3. The letters in the model name stand for intelligent design and individuality, but the number 3 has two meanings. The first says the order of the market segment where the new electric (class C, ie 3). And the second alludes to the third, strategically important models in the history of Volkswagen, after the legendary Volkswagen "Beetle" and "Volkswagen Golf". Thus, Volkswagen identifier.3 opens a completely new page in the history of the German manufacturer – the era of electric vehicles.
Please note that, despite the camouflage of the camouflage film covering the body of the new electric car code Volkswagen.3, however, it is possible to consider the exterior design of the novelty. In the presence of a car body thought out from the point of view of aerodynamics, with compact overhangs and wheels spaced around the perimeter of the body, a compact hood, a strong slope of the windshield frame, a domed roof, a huge round wheel arches, able to make even 20-inch wheels, and a neat stern.
Also, the electric sports car has all-LED headlights, a LED connected between the bridge mounted on the sport-to-foot supports of the rear-view mirrors, stylish headlights with LED filling, as well as a massive spoiler and beautifully contoured bumpers.
The manufacturer showed the external dimensions of the body identifier Volkswagen.3 only the length of the car is 4250 mm. So the electric novelty is very close in size to the 7th generation Volkswagen Golf hatchback. The interior length of the electric first-born family ID will be the same as the Volkswagen Passat.
It’s a shame, but the interior of the Volkswagen ID.3 has not yet been officially shown (photo images of the concept’s interior). However, the manufacturer says that already in the basic configuration there will be a virtual instrument panel, and advanced multimedia systems (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, rear view camera), climate control, a multifunctional steering wheel and a wide range of electronic security systems, assistants and assistants.

Based on the electric 5-door hatchback ID Volkswagen.3 is the latest MEB modular platform, where by Volkswagen 2022 AG plans to build as many as 27 models under the brands Audi, Seat, Skoda and of course Volkswagen. Electric hatchbacks, sedans, station wagons, crossovers, minivans and even pickup trucks are expected.
The key features of the meb platform can safely be considered that the location of the drive module (engine and gearbox) on the rear axle, traction batteries under the cabin floor within the base and the wireless charging panel located on the front axle in close proximity to the power electronics.
Volkswagen ID.3 is equipped with a 170-horsepower electric motor and a choice of three traction batteries with a capacity of 48, 55 or 62 kW. According to the manufacturer of primary batteries, it will be able to cover up to 330 km on a single charge, up to 420 km on average, while the most capacious one is up to 550 km. Interestingly, the maximum capacity of batteries installed on cars with a MEB "truck" can reach 101 kWh.
The process of re-stocking an electric fuel cell depends on the type of charging station. A home charging station with a power of 11 kW will resume the supply of electricity to the battery by 100% in 6-8 hours. A more powerful 22 kW DC charger will charge the battery up to 100% in 3.5-4 hours, and a large 125 kW charger will provide a full 100% restoration of fuel supply in less than an hour (up to 80% in less than 30 minutes).
