NIO ES8 2018 – Tesla Model X Chinese Competitor
The new Chinese electric vehicle NIO ES8 has officially debuted on the market. The public premiere of the NIO ES8 electric crossover took place in the spring of 2017 as part of the Shanghai Motor Show. And now, as promised earlier by the manufacturer, the novelty went on sale at the end of the year. In our review of the NIO ES8 2018-2019 – photos and videos, prices and full specifications of a potential competitor to the Tesla Model X.
The Chinese electric car NIO ES8 is equipped with two electric motors with a total power of 480 kW (over 650 hp), providing a large 5-meter crossover with acceleration dynamics from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds. offered in China at a price of 448,000-548,000 yuan (3988-4878 thousand conventional units). However, this price is not the final price… the conclusion of a battery lease agreement with the manufacturer (1280 yuan per month, about 114 thousand), the buyer is entitled to a subsidy from the state in the amount of 100,000 yuan. Thus, the real price of the NIO ES8 electric crossover will be only 348,000-448,000 yuan (3098-3988 thousand conventional units).
I would like to note that the main competitor of the new NIO ES8 electric crossover in the Chinese market is the American electrocreaser Tesla Model X, offered at a higher price, from 836,000 yuan version of the Tesla Model X 75D (two electric motors with a total power of 386 kW) to 141,350 yuan per crossover Tesla Model X P100D (three electric motors output 568 kW). It immediately becomes clear that the Chinese novelty is able to nullify the sales of the American electric car in China. In this case, not only in the lower cost of new products.

So the new NIO ES8 electric crossover is a serious modern car with a stylish appearance, comfortable and high-quality interior, but, of course, advanced technical stuffing. In preparation for the production of prototypes of new electric vehicles, he drove many thousands of kilometers in the most extreme corners of the planet, from Inner Mongolia at a temperature of 40-30 degrees below zero, to the desert of Australia, where the temperature is 40-45 degrees above zero.

The new electric crossover showcases a modern and stylish exterior design and, despite the presence of fashionable features (rear floating front roofs, touch-sensitive door handles installed flush with the door surfaces, sophisticated LED optics front and rear lights) is not only original, but original and attractive. Model ES8 NIO is our intelligent electric platform, the body and chassis of the model is made of aluminum. The electric crossover, due to the presence of engines on the front and rear axles, all-wheel drive with air suspension by default and the NIO autopilot pilot, which allowed us to switch to a crossover in a completely autonomous mode.
Looking at a 7-seater Chinese electric car, you immediately understand that this is a premium car. In the presence of expensive finishing materials (leather tight upper part of the cabin, perforated leather seat trim), neat interior assembly and a huge range of modern equipment, as well as various options for the comfort of the driver and passengers.
Organized driver: multifunctional steering wheel, electrically adjustable steering column, digital instrument cluster with 8.8-inch full-color screen, huge 10.4-inch color touchscreen multimedia system located on a sloping center console that flows into a massive center tunnel, original transmission control module, a platform for wireless charging of smartphones, a comfortable chair, electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated. The same seats and front passenger, but in addition to the footrest.
The second row includes a triple split 40/60 seat, which can be moved along the cabin on a slide as much as 290 mm and change the angle of the backrest. Passengers are allocated enough space in all directions for a comfortable stay. There is seat heating, an armrest and a separate climate control unit, a control unit and a pair of USB connectors and LED reading lights.
The third row will be appreciated by a couple of passengers, full of seats, which will accommodate even adults. In the gallery, of course, it is not as free and comfortable as the second row, but in general it is very convenient.
Of the equipment, we note a panoramic glass sunroof, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functions, full LED headlights and LED parking lights with 3-dimensional graphics, three-zone climate control, keyless entry system, power tailgate with contactless opening function.
The trunk of the crossover with a 7-seater seating arrangement has modest possibilities for accommodating luggage. Length only 440 mm, height 770 mm, width 1330 mm. Folding the seat backs of the third row will be larger and thus the useful volume of the luggage compartment. In a 5-place configuration, the length of the load increases to 1070 mm. Having folded the backs of the third and second rows, the owners of large crossovers will receive a huge luggage compartment with a flat floor 2300 mm long.
Chinese manufacturers traditionally do not worry about the useful volume of the trunk, but we decided to figure out how much you can cram into the trunk. When loaded to the ceiling and in the presence of 7 people on board, the trunk is able to take about 450 liters with five people in the cabin, cargo capacity increases to 980 liters, but having only the driver and front passenger will push almost 2700 liters of cargo volume.

The electric car in front of us and, of course, the movement of the crossover is driven by electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. The impact of each engine is 240 kW (over 326 hp) with 420 Nm of torque, so that the peak power of the two engines is 480 kW (652 hp or more) with 840 Nm of torque transmitted to all wheels. This power is enough to propel vehicles weighing over 2400 kg from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.4 seconds, the maximum speed is electronically limited to 200 km / h.
Shares of electric fuel, allows you to overcome the novelty of about 355 miles on a single charge, stored in batteries with a total capacity of 67 kW. Interestingly, the electric crossover can cover about 500 km on one gas station, but provided that the average speed does not exceed 60 miles per hour. Restore the stock of an electric car in batteries by 80% in 1 hour (fast charge), but charge the battery to 100% only work for 8 hours. In any case, this is not a problem, especially for entering buyers into a contract for the rental of additional batteries. Replacement takes only 3 minutes. At least that's what the brochure says.
