Crossover Peugeot 3008 is a holiday and a few tears
Peugeot 3008 (Peugeot 3008) I took to go on a short holiday vacation with my small family of three. My 150-horsepower (2 liter) diesel engine with an 8-speed automatic Peugeot 3008 in the maximum GT configuration. It has more than 200mm of ground clearance, but is front-wheel drive. There is hope that the car will be more economical than the all-wheel drive, especially since it is equipped with off-road driving modes.
Well, I have in my hands an indestructible French couple – a diesel engine – a classic 8-speed. machine? The market still does not give a clear answer to this question. I know that there were complaints about the French diesel engine and gasoline. By the way, the version with a gasoline 1.6-liter turbocharged 150-horsepower engine is 150 thousand cheaper than a diesel one.
The turbine, you say, is still a reliable unit. This derivative of the BMW engine has a tarnished reputation in our market. In other words, choosing a Peugeot 3008 in the press park for the holidays, I decided not to risk it and took the diesel version.
In a city with festive decorations and no traffic, my diesel engine consumed 8.2 liters per "hundred" (a plant for the city gives 6.3 liters). In a traffic jam, the consumption will definitely be higher. I, as a calm person, did not go beyond these figures in terms of average consumption. I note that the consumption does not meet my expectations from French technology.
On the road
On the track I had to do a lot of overtaking, suburban slow-moving. For 150 hp the motor is quite dynamic, but I would not say that it is enough in excess. The day before the main trip, I tried to check the sensations from the dynamics of the car with my “speedlogic" device.
My Peugeot 3008 accelerated to hundreds in 10.3 seconds. This is slightly slower than factory specifications (9.8 sec). I’ll tell you how I tried to get closer to this result. Used a quick start with two pedals in the "sport" mode. Experiments with setting the manual mode for the gearbox did not affect the result.
So, I accelerate, after a few seconds the Peugeot 3008 reports: the dynamic mode does not work. The computer does not give any errors. "Check" is not lit. Perhaps the car in the process of running in this way saves itself.
My road also included serpentine. Here the car behaves responsively, the steering wheel in the "sport" mode becomes noticeably heavier. Two turns, and the dynamic mode is cut down, the steering becomes light again. For normal measured driving, its sharpness is enough. Management is predictable. You get what you expect.
The suspension is comfortable, the Peugeot 3008 passes gently through the pits, does not “sick” from rolls and does not knock out teeth on the “cops”.
Peugeot 3008 as a whole comfortable comfortable car. The cabin is quiet, but there are complaints about the diesel. At speeds above 3000 thousand, it rushes into the cabin with a persistent roar, and even at cold idle it is noisy.
After warming up, annoying diesel noise goes away, but not completely. On the go, you will once again think about whether it is worth unscrewing the diesel engine to high revs. Despite the fact that his peak power is at 4 thousand revolutions. Peak moment at 2 thousand revolutions.
He has an excellent torque of 370 Nm, it’s nice to drive at the moment – it’s responsive at low revs. At low revs you can feel it. But already by 4 thousand revolutions, the engine makes unpleasant noise and loses pressure. Responsiveness to the "gas" pedal at medium speeds is brighter than at high ones.
For the average user, as I was during the holidays, the Peugeot 3008 is a pleasure. Realizing that the "pedal to the floor" does not give the expected acceleration, I focused on a measured movement. In addition, it began to rain, and it was necessary to prepare for a site where there was no smell of asphalt.
By the way, a friend in a country house was ready to “pull” me, if something happened. In a word, let’s go.
The ESP off button in the Peugeot 3008 is not at hand. I am looking for the “traction control” item in the multimedia menu – here the car allows you to turn off the ESP. But this shutdown has a peculiarity. If for Renault models, ESP is activated at 80 km/h, here it is activated at 40 km/h. So it will not give the wheels a lot of slippage. There will be no digging and digging. If you exceed the speed, the ESP will turn on and strangle the engine, you can end the run in a puddle on this.
Peugeot 3008 has several off-road modes: mud, snow, sand. I tried them in turn – the response to the pedal does not change. As it should be: in the "snow" mode – smoother starting, in the "dirt" mode the wheels actively slip, the ESP does not choke them, as in the "snow" mode. I repeat, electronics does not offer a difference.
We still drove without outside help, but I would not meddle in a strong mud on a Peugeot 3008.
The Frenchman’s crossover, despite the regimes, is very conditional. All-wheel drive is not yet promised to us.
When landing, you don’t cling to the steering wheel, I myself am 98 kg and 180 cm tall. The mechanical adjustment for reach and height is sufficient for me. The passenger seat moves mechanically, but there is an adjustment of the lumbar support and massage. The driver’s seat is electrically adjustable. The seats themselves are well supported, there is a separate retractable shin pad. The seat does not have sports ambitions, it is the most for a family man.
The multimedia system is connected via bluetooth, there are Applecarplay and Androidauto. Digital instrument panel – in the "sport" mode, it lights up with red stripes. She has five combinations in total. There are cruise control modes, distance limiter and approaching the car in front. Liked the active cruise. It has a thruster retention effect in the lane. But sometimes it pulls where it is not necessary, several times it did not react to good markup. He accelerates and slows down, keeps his distance.
There is a navigation mode. Peugeot 3008 can plot a route and displays it on the dashboard. But it doesn’t show traffic.
This is a rather confusing menu. In its bowels you can find a lot of things, but you have to try. Here you can control the radio and navigation system, and control the interface of instrument scales, for example (selecting the necessary parameters in individual settings. Such as an on-board computer, oil temperature, tachometer, etc.). Here you can turn on and off the anti-slip system.
Night vision is available as an option. It will not allow you to admire the picture without urgent need, but at night it will display an image on the dashboard. Depending on the side, right or left, it will also display an image instead of a speedometer or tachometer and accompany it with a sound signal. So the Peugeot 3008 can grab a pedestrian or a pet out of the dark.
For a more comfortable movement, there is not enough function (autohold) in Russian – auto brake. The hand brake is implemented as electric. And the handbrake button is under the gear selector.
The armrest is wide, but the cup holders in it will not be able to hold large, and most importantly, full glasses of drinks. Anything larger than an espresso container will tend to fall out and stain the interior and things. Behind the tunnel on the floor is almost invisible, the legs of three passengers will be comfortable, but the truth is cramped in the shoulders. There is no back seat heating.
A huge glass roof with a large sliding sunroof adds a sense of spaciousness and comfort. From the sun, the glazing can be closed with a dense curtain. For the comfort of the rear passengers in my Peugeot 3008, the factory provides for a rather strong tinting of the rear windows. My child had a great sleep on the way on a sunny day.
Having discarded all the hidden cavities, I simply multiplied the length, width and height, getting 485 liters. I think the secret is in the double sex. Here the trunk can be adjusted in height. And if necessary, you will get the maximum volume. The floor cover can be lowered by 11 cm and thus get the coveted 591 liters.
The seat backs fold down for maximum storage. I did this both from the passenger compartment and from the luggage compartment. A flat floor when folding the rear backrest does not work even with the trunk shelf raised. If you lower it down, you get a very large step, the size is the same 11 cm. But the volume will increase to 1600 liters. A hatch is provided in the back – this, as a skier, I separately checked out.
Loading height is quite comfortable. Under the floor of the trunk lies a narrow stowaway. 135/80 R18. And in the cavity of the disc is a kit for changing the wheel. Jack, wheel wrench and towing eye. In case she needs it.
I did not need anything from the emergency kit when communicating with the Peugeot 3008. I traveled with him on different roads, pampering my family with real luxury. The Frenchman in our open spaces excites conflicting feelings. He sees us as successful citizens who are able to organize interesting leisure activities. Another question is that we treat it with suspicion, and even at such a price.
My Peugeot 3008 in the maximum GT configuration is sold at a price of 3,064,000 conditional units. If you don’t really need night vision, panoramic roof, red Napa leather, red body color (I would call it cherry), you can save 355,000 conditional units. It’s still too expensive 🙁
Immediately you start looking for an excuse for alternative options. And they will definitely be found, but alas, without the French charm.
Speaking of tears, my wife even cried when I left with the Peugeot 3008 to return it to the press park.
I thank the author of the material Yevgeny Mikhalkevich for a detailed story. If you have a desire to argue with him, we will be happy to write.
Not so long ago, on my YouTube channel, we showed the capabilities of French technology. Peugeot 2008 beat Toyota CHR itself.
